    Ruger/Marlin 1894-44Mag

Read the announcement of Ruger's 1894 Marlin in .44Mag.
Looking at the pictures, I noticed that the left side of the receiver is NOT drilled & tapped for a Receiver Peep sight.
Wonder if the tang is drilled & tapped.

Happiness is a Warm GUN & more ammo to shoot in it.

There is a good rear view picture that shows no extra screw holes on the tang.

I don't remember which manufacturer it is but one of the aperture sights which used to mount to the side now uses the two rear scope mount holes.

Marlin started that nonsense when they came out with the CB versions since the cowboy shooters wanted tang sights but not receiver sights. Problem is I don't think any of the manufacturers d&t the tang for a tang sight.

Personally I prefer a good receiver sight, tang sights interfere with my grip.

My Original Marlin Cowboys have all had the receivers tapped for receiver sights. Regardless of frame size. An 1895, 1894 & 336. Bought the 1895 Cowboy in 1999, it was drilled & tapped on the tang and left side of the receiver.

Now that I have opened my mouth and been proven wrong, I will have to dig out my two CB's tonight and actually look at them again. I have an 1894CB in .45 Colt from 2000 or 2001, and a 336CB in .38-55 from about the same timeframe that I bought NIB a few years ago.

I do remember a big gripe session on the internet when they stopped drilling the side of the receiver, I'm just not that clear when they stopped.

Williams at least redesigned their receiver sights to utilize the rear two scope mounting holes for mounting.

One of the neat things about having a 336 with the side mounting holes is that you can use a Weaver 63B (IIRC) base cut between the rear two holes to use only three mounting screws and still mount a Williams 5D sight behind it. I have a Model 30AW (Plain label 336 in other words) with such a setup.

Both my 1894CB in .45 Colt and the 336CB in .38-55 from 2000 and 2001 respectively; are drilled for side mounted receiver sights, but not tang sights.

I really think Marlin made the change sometime about 2003-5, but I don't have any that new to prove it.
