It would be a good idea to start with a well known and proven powder. That way you eliminate one of the variables, in case you have problems in the beginning.

Air-Soft BBs? If you order your powder from Smoke4320, he also stocks the correct BBs. Otherwise, about any toy/outdoor store that carries Air-Soft will also have their BBs.

As for whether or not you need them...that's an interesting question. Some members here have posted that they obtain good coverage without them but, on the other hand, I've used them (as recommended) since my very first batch and have never had a coverage issue...regardless of ambient humidity. What it comes down to is what works for you.

Just a heads up: I've had bad results with Eastwood Mirror Green. (one of the powders recommended above) Your results may be different, but for me it will not stick properly to the bullets. I get poor coverage using the shake-n-bake method while using this powder. Humidity here is not a problem, the bullets are clean and dry (freshly cast), and I use the correct types of tubs, with black airsoft BB's. Not only will the mirror green not stick, when I add it to other powders that have worked really well, it makes them not stick either. I have several of Smoke's colors, and all of them work perfectly. I have also had really good results with Eastwood Ford Light Blue. I don't know what the problem is, but Mirror Green just doesn't work for me. I'm not too worried though; lots of other choices.

The only method I use is the shake and bake in handguns, rifles and ARs. Tried the GC, did not like the outcome, base is the accuracy, if it is screwed up so is the accuracy. Went to all plain base, no problems with the hardware cloth box and the nose down bake. You do need the formed needle nose pliers to pick the bullets out of the powder and Air Soft BBs, and set the bullets in the box grid nose down, I use a large round punch to make the square holes more round.

Don't need BB's. But, I like to use them in my small batches (~30 bullets per batch). It keeps the bullets from banging into each other as much. For large batches of bullets you can do without. Try it both ways and see what you like.

The BB's are made of a plastic that helps generate static. I've also used the large craft beads for making jewelry. The 'best' BB's are the 'flat' colors. Smoke usually sells the black ones so if you buy some powder from him you can get some BB's at the same time.

    I use BBs

opened out the holes in a colander so the powder and BBs would drop through to a big bowl while the bullets stayed in.

then pour bullets onto the wire baking trays and off to oven
