    Deal or no deal?

I’ve been offered this Model 94 Canadian Centennial for $600. It belonged to a recently deceased relative and his best friend is handling the sale of his stuff.

I haven’t seen it in the flesh yet, but he says there’s one blemish on the metal, and he had box, papers, etc.

I’ve been thinking of acquiring a lever gun lately, but along the lines of a Marlin 1894.

    It's a fair price.

It ain't exactly a double throw down bargain--- with the brother in law or preacher's discount,
but it isn't over priced either.

One is on Gunbroker for something like $589. other places have them up around $750.

Sounds like a good price, buy it use it and don’t look back. Lots of those new in the box as “investments” maybe had Winchester not commemorated everything under the sun might think differently.

The prices are only going up, and $600 isn’t bad…

Five years ago we were having these same discussions, but the number was 300 instead…and it’s the same rifle.

No safety, no rebounding hammer, win win in my book. And a rifle.

Not a bad price and if you are buying as a shooter, remember these actually had very good barrels for the time. They usually shoot pretty well.

    I hope ya get it.

One thing to figure into the deal is you beat the system on shipping, sales tax, and FFL transfer fees if ya bought it on line.

    Very true.

As for the family discount: the money is going to my wife’s two nieces, who can really use it (though one doesn’t deserve a dime.)

Had it been offered to me for an absurdly low price, I would’ve had to decline and probably would have offered to sell it for them (oh, wait, no, been there, tried to do that, almost got lynched!)

I'd buy it. Those sell for $1100+ at RIAco

This 100%. The current octagon barrel 94 goes for more than twice that much if you can even find one. You would have no problem at all making a profit on it later if you wanted to.

I traded into a Canadian centennial model exactly like that one 8 or ten years ago and I will share it is the most accurate 30/30 I have ever fired.

I consider $600 to be a very fair price for this one.

I consider the Canadian Centennial model one the least garish of the commemoratives Winchester produced.

Last lever gun I tried to buy came in at $550. Unfortunately that was the pre-flip price. I'd give six for that.

You can always offer $500 and spread the Benji's out in front of him. Then let the sweat start without saying anything else. He will probably counter with $50 more but if it takes it, use the last $100 to get it. Either way, if it was on GoingBroker the shipping would probably be in $40-$50 range and then you add taxes. Plus, if a bidding war starts the price could get stupid high. Bottom line....don't let it get away....unless you would really have a Marlin. Or maybe this AND a Marlin.

That appears to be the 26" bbld version. These are usually stupid good shooters. The only add-on I'd consider is a tang sight and a globe front. Priced right also.

I’d buy that one; the octagon barrel is the clincher!
AND… it may even be factory drilled and tapped for a reciever sight.
    Nowadays $600 isn’t even a car payment!

I have both the 20" barreled one carbine and the 26" rifle one. Both shoot very well and both didn't cost what your friend is asking for the carbine. Bought both at different times, the carbine was used and the rifle new in the box. Frank

Exactly the kind of rifle I like. I'd snap it up for that much or even more.

Yes, wouldn’t last long around here at that price.
