    MML in hotter weather.

MML is my go-to hunting lube as I find it works well from a cold barrel in our northwoods.

    Two questions.

I have looked but there seem to be so many choices in DIY lubes, and I'm a bit at sea. Right now, upper 80's to low-90's and I'm doing load development on a few of my and my son's rifles. Only the 45-70 uses cast and I'm not sure the existing MML is doing OK in this heat. I have an old note on using Ben's red for spring and summer, MML for fall and winter shooting. Good choice?

Secondly, how do you guys switch out lubes from one lubrizer?

Edit: Just discovered Johnson Paste Wax seems to have been discontinued. Is Minwax a suitable substitute?

Try the MML+soap. It handles the warm temps better and retains the properties of the regular.

Just add a little beeswax or paraffin.

Thanks guys. Any recommendations for changing out a lube from the lubrisizer, if the chamber is full of existing lube?

I use a heatgun to get the reservoir mostly emptied of old lube. You don't need to melt it completely, just heat it enough to get the sides loose then work it out with a slotted screwdriver with bent tip, being careful to not scratch the inside of the reservoir [yeah, I have a special tool just for this]. Then I install a new stick of lube. Then with lube die removed, I push the old lube remaining in die area, out the die hole, by putting pressure on the new lube.

Also, I agree with BABore. Add 1 or 2% ivory soap to your existing batch of MML for better performance in high heat.
