Got in a new to me Ruger No 1 in a great caliber, range report.

I watched this rifle on a benchrest website for several weeks, the owner made two big price drops, no lookers. I texted the guy, he called me, I made him a offer within $100 of his price, and the deal was struck. It came into the lgs this am and I picked it up about 11. Got it home and shot it with some jacketed loads, and lead loads also. At 25 yds it was a ragged hole with either load for 4 shot groups, at 100 yds it kept 3 shot groups with nearly all 3 touching, this is with Iron sights, it also came with scope rings. The caliber is 40/65, and it has a custom 30" barrel, with the tropical taper for the .375 H&H size barrel, with the original front and rear sights. I may put a 3x9 scope with BDC has marks and shoot it at different yardages 100, 200, 300 etc if I can get the BDC to work out. The iron sights are 6" low at 25 and much more at 100 yds. I would like to put a long range vernier on it, but the only way I can figure how to do that is to remove the saftey and machine a plate that i can drill and tap to match vernier sights, that can be secured by a screw or roll pin under the tang. Another way way is to remove the quarter rib screws, get some longer, and machine a base to secure a staff on top of the rib. I will send pics to TBG to post when he gets a chance.

I would think a Bridge type mount could be made then add a tab to one side or both of on the safety button. I would contact Montana vintage arms they may know of or have something for the guys in Canada using no1s

Saw that on the site where you got it. Was tempted but have a Pedersoli Sharps in that caliber. Enjoy it, should be a fun shooter

You might take a look here:

I have several sets of their sights on my heavy guns, they stay put and work well. If out of stock, they will normally take and order and make them for you. The listed is the rear peep for a Ruger #1 might need their front to match.

Thanks for the web page, but they are not going to get the elevation I need for 100-500 yds cast bullet shooting. Country Gent is working on a solution, and I have a pretty good idea for a vernier sight mount as well.
