    700X in 38spl

I have a ton (big can) of 700x, Don't load shotgun anymore.

    I think it's a bit fast but I have been using it for 38spl 158 berry's . Might be warm at 4.0gr
It measures better than Unique (don't have much left) or Herco in the Dillon .
    Haven't tried AA5 yet.

Yes, that’s a plus P or a bit more with that bullet in 38 special. 3.5-3.6 is max standard pressure. With my lee pro 1000, that’s about as low as I can go to get consistent charges with big 700X flakes. I can’t load light cowboy loads at 2.8-3.0 grains for 38 special as my Lee progressive isn’t consistent going that light, and I don’t wanna stick a bullet in a match. If I used a scoop, I could use it but single loading is too slow for cowboy ammo. I still load a bunch of 700X for 12 ga. and 20. I load it for my cowboy loads in 38-40, 44 special/mag. 44-40 and 45 Colt. And my standard pressure 45 acp. Like you, I have a bunch of 700X, that’s a good thing.

For years I used the Lee dipper that threw 2.8 gr of 700X over the Old Lee 166 SWC bullet, accurate enough I used this load for grey squirrels.

700x works great in 38 special go to https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/rel...c=true&type=53 to look up loads. I ended up the same way stopped shooting shotguns with 8 lbs left.

My Star press came with a 3.4gr 700X bar in it and I have loaded a lot of 158 LSWC's with it. Been happy with 700X for 38's.

4.0grs would be pretty hot I think.

Speer has data. Up to +P. 158 gr lswc 4.4 grs. https://www.speer.com/reloading/handgun-data.html

    I have been using 700X for 38 & 45acp. My old 12ga powder, also.

I dropped it to 3.7 This was in a Dan Wesson 357 but I may also shot it in a 5-shot so better safe.

    These are plated Berry's

    700X powder in 38 Special.

    This week shot 3.6 - 700x in 38 with 163 gr lswc. Fed 200 mag primer. S&W 337PD.

Bullet diameter was .358" fine for M28. The 337PD J frame has tight throats .357" As i got to the end of the 50 rounds, fired brass was almost impossible to eject.

Blow back of lube & shaved lead stuck the brass in the chamber.

I think over size bullets not good?

Plus, i found tnat 357 "nickel" brass does not spring back like plain brass. (Fired in 357 mag, M28. )
