    Duke up north

I've been searching for the articles from Duke down south(I think) formerly Duke up north. I thought he had an in depth article about 57's to .308 jackets, I've been off the forum for a while and am trying to re charge my Swaging and reloading memories. Thanks Bill.

    Just Bill

Duke and I were best buddies and he and I swagged together for years. He left all his swagging dies and tools to me. Pm me for any questions and I will be glad to try and answer any questions. He was a great teacher and mentor I miss him everyday.

It is starting to come back to me, as I thought I followed Dukes instructions I was crushing the necks when expanding. The expander I have is from KM Shooting. Perhaps neck expanding could be done before annealing unless the annealing temp may be too hot?

I have found I have less trouble, if I expand before annealing.

Annealing before expanding will almost always get you crumpled necks. They need to be stiff(hard) to keep from collapsing. Fire forming is another matter, it almost goes case by case on whether annealing before will help.

I recently did some 500 N.E. to 500/450 N.E. that annealing was absolutely mandatory between first forming and final fire forming.

Yep, we made the same mistake. Expand then anneal.
