what is best option for disposal of vintage ammo

I am helping the widow of a friend who passed dispose of LOTS and LOTS of very vintage ammunition. This is stuff that I have never heard of all labeled and bagged. How best to get rid of it? Do it bury it or is it useful to someone who collects?

May well be collectable, hard to see without more info. I would see if you can find a local ammo collector to at least look it over.

I have a buddy who is HUGE into that stuff, but we're on the other side of the nation.

If you don't want to use or sell it---- Call the local police dept.
They'll come get it and make is disappear.

It's no big deal for them,
it is pretty common when a shooter passes away and the family has no interest in the left over ammo.

Call Ward's Auctions, they're in Oregon. If it's worth anything they may come get it. If you will take a look at their website you will see they are big into that. Now, what you consider a lot, and what they consider a lot, and worth selling, may differ........

First idea: To have it examined and priced by a cartridge collector. How to find one? Contact your local shooting clubs, explain your situation and ask if they have a member who is a collector or if they know of one even not a member.

Next idea: If you're really into selling it and getting the money for the widow, rent a table at a gun show and display the various lots of ammo. Determine prices by visiting Gunbroker.com where many individual cartridges and lots of ammo ranging from small to large are sold daily. Enter the designation of the cartridge, such as .30-30 Winchester, into the search window and see what comes up.

Next idea: Again, determine an approximate value of the various lots of ammo and offer them for sale here on the Castboolits Forum in the Swappin' & Sellin' section. Be sure to read, understand, and follow all of the S&S rules before posting. Be sure that you are able to ship ammo from your geographical location.

I can second that, I’m a pre-WW II 22 box collector and have done business with them a LOT. Talk to Eric Ward, very straight shooter and if you got any vintage 22 boxes to get rid of….LOL

You say labeled and bagged. Is this factory ammo in factory boxes or is it someone's reloads? If factory there may be a market for them. If reloads find someone who is willing to break them down for components.

I suspect there are plenty here who would be interested in purchasing all or at least part. Just put it up for sale in the swapping and selling forum here

If you can't provide descriptions just post pictures and we will figure it out. I would likely buy all the rimfire stuff and more.

Definitely post it here if it is feasible. Lot of folks would probably take a few different calibers.
