I was feeling sorry for this little BSA Model 12/15 target rifle, obviously had a hard life. Purchased it for the thick walled action but what a suprise, it still shoots really well with CCI standard pistol ammunition. 7 rounds in 1/2" is about as good as my 70yo eyes can shoot!

It's hard to find a small frame martini that isn't a great shooter!
I shot an International at college 50+ years ago and they are awesome rifles.
Your "ugly" one is a keeper. Like you, I am old and doubt I could do much better with peep sights so 1" is not too bad in my books. BTW, I have scopes on all my rifles except the pistol carbines. Also, bear in mind you are using "cheap" ammunition.
If it were mine, I would add a scope an keep it looking fugly. Fun to go to a range and shoot itty bitty groups with a "piece of junk".

If you want “ugly,” look for a Cooey Military Model .22; the one they offered as an understudy or trainer for the Lee-Enfield. That one is so ugly, it’s actually attractive, in a weird way.
