markings on roll crimp on old ammo

I have inherited alot of old shotgun ammunition from the widow of a friend who passed.
most have old roll crimps and on the card under the roll crimp are 3 markings
3-1/4.... I do not know what this refers to?? Can you help clarify
1-1/8 -6.... I believe this refers to the powder charge (1-1/8) and shot size (#6).

    thanks

is the any monetary value in old and very old shotgun ammo?

3 1/4 is the dram equivalent, i.e. the powder charge gives close to the same power that 3 1/4 drams of black powder gave. Supposedly.

The 1 1/8 is the weight of the shot charge in ounces.

    6 is the shot size.

This is the way Shotgun shells were labelled from the beginning to the late 1990's/ early 2000's. Frankly, I am more comfortable with this style labelling than with the current velocity notes. I was out of the country when the big changeover took place and never saw a decent conversion chart.

What you have is a fairly standard light field load, assuming it is 12 gauge, suitable for squirrels and rabbits.
