    HK and the 45 Super

Earlier this year I bought a HK45. Although I have no plans for the 45 Super cartridge, I keep reading that HKs can handle this round.

On Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.45_Super, they state "Manufacturers such as Heckler & Koch GmbH currently offer pistols rated to fire .45 Super "out of the box"."

My owner's manual says the pistol can shoot 45 ACP +P but never mentions 45 Super. So I decided to write HK and ask about this. This is the answer I received.

    Good morning

Our .45 ACP pistols were designed around the .45 ACP cartridge, both standard pressure ACP +P. We have never tested our pistols with .45 Super, nor were they designed around the cartridge. As such, we cannot endorse the usage of .45 Super ammunition in our pistols.

I hope this clarifies things for others as it did for me.

Back when the super was introduced I shot a bit of it through my stock 45 USP. No destruction or damage occurred. I’m not sure about the later 45 model.

I owned an HK45 for a while. I never found the claims regarding 45 Super to be credible; I'm pretty deep into the weeds with that cartridge, and it really does require some thoughtful modifications to not damage your firearm, if you intend to fire it on a regular basis.
