    1892 Winchester Loading Gate/Spring Cover

    Gentlemen:

I snuck up on a pretty nice 44/40 1892 Winchester on GunBroker the other day, it went pretty cheap because the loading gate was broken off. I thought that wouldn't be a problem to find, oops.........Winchester Bob isn't gonna make anymore, WCF Metalsmith isn't either, AND he was the one who made them for Homestead Parts (at least at one time) and they are out too. I haven't seen any on eBay or Gunbroker since I started looking a couple months ago, but I did find a questionable one at Numrich, they told me that it would fit 44/40, but apparently they don't know there are two different gates, one for 25/20 and 32/20, the other for 38/40 and 44/40. I went ahead and bought it as a pig in a poke, but I'm not sure which one it is either.

I placed a WTB in the Swapping and Selling section here, found nothing, but did get a few tips.........including the one at Numrich.

Soooo, to make a long story short, does anybody have one for 38/40 44/40, OR have any of y'all used a Rossi or a modern Winchester 92 loading gate in a vintage 1892?

Funny thing, it works just fine with no loading gate..........

    Thanks!

A shot in the dark......maybe a Uberti or Chiappa replica part might work. If used with one of their screws you shouldn't have thread problems.

You might try Turnbull Restoration. They may have a part, or may know if the new winchester 92 parts fit. Winchester's are made by Miroku, and will have metric threads, but I'd guess the new part will come close to being drop in.

The SASS (cowboy) shooters use "Steve's Gunz" The Rossi Specialist for Rossi 92 work. Sorry, I don't have his contact info but googlefu will lead you to him GW
