My brother passed away yesterday at 62

My brother passed away yesterday at 62 years old. We were 11 months apart and never really close. He was an alcoholic like my Father was (he basically quit a bit to late but he did) and a few other family members. I stopped drinking back in '87 as I saw what it does having grown up with it. He left behind two grown kids and a grandkid. What a waste. Heart of gold but the alcohol had him. He only drank beer so that was OK accordingto him. Started out as a joke at 7am with beer in the coffee cup. He did construction, as did most of my family, which added physical pain to the equation. Lost his drivers license a long time ago due to to many dui's. Folks if you drink to much, please cut back. Both for yourselves and others around you.

He is I a better place without the pain. God bless and rest in peace Bobby.

I'm sorry to hear you lost your brother.
Try to remember that life doesn't end just because you leave this rock. The next stop is so much better...I have a brother there also.

    Sorry for your loss Ron.

But alcoholics cannot "cut back". My ex FIL was an alcoholic and he kicked the curse.

Sorry to hear that Ron, It is strange that no matter how much we do not care for or do not associate with some of our family we are still family. And in the end it still hurts.

Sorry for your loss. Darn alcohol is just rough to get past. One can not be a sometime drinker, one leads to another then and other etc. I know of a few that I was close to that were taken too early. Not sure if God Grace was with them or not, not my call but every once in a while I think about them and often pray about it.

Ron-- I am sorry for your loss. I just turned 71 and I had two younger brothers who died in their 50's from drugs and alcohol. Both were terrible painful deaths. I illustrated to my own children and grandkids how much pain and hardship they would put on others by following that path in life. Again my deepest condolences to you and your family.

Sorry for the loss of your brother, alcoholic or not.

Guys, alcoholism is genetic, either you are and have to avoid alcohol completely or you are not and can make yourself a drunk if you so desire. For those who are not alcoholics two drinks a day is healthy, reduces blood pressure, reduces stroke and heart attack, but the more you drink over those two a day you greatly increase your risk of heart attack and stroke. If you smoke on top of that your chances of heart attack and stroke go way up. If you are a genetic alcoholic you cannot do this. You will eventually fall off the wagon and refuse to limit yourself.

One drink = one 12 oz beer, one 6 oz glass of wine, one single shot of 80 proof liquor. Each of these contain about 1/2 oz alcohol, and your liver can metabolize that much alcohol in an hour. Thus if you limit yourself to one drink a hour you will never have significant blood alcohol.
