    45 colt BP rifle/pistol question

For those of you who shoot 45 colt in rifle and pistols what velocity have you achieved with your loading in your pistol and or rifle,
What is your load, bullet and barrel length for the given velocity and How accurate was the load.

My 5 1/2 barrel registers 875 fps with a 250 gr bullet and 35 grains of OE 2f, the 16 inch barreled trapper does just short of 1100 fps.
Accuracy is decent enough in both guns. The handgun needs to have the face of the cylinder cleaned after 25 or so rounds to keep from binding, the trapper ran 50 rounds without a hiccup.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

    Don,

I load the Big Lube 250s (SPG lubricant) over 35g of OE FFFg and have run 50 rounds through several of my USFA single actions (4-3/4", 5-1/2", and 7-1/2") with no serious binding up or need to clean. On one occasion I squirted Balistol on the B/C gap and the cylinder-pin bushing of my favorite 4-3/4" 45 Colt after 50 rounds and continued for another 25 or 30 rounds. Perhaps it was the FFFg vs FFg as I've heard FFFg burns cleaner. My best guess is it is the generous lube on the bullet that lets me keep on shooting.

    YMMV,
    Dave

Dave the bullets I ran on that test were the swaged lead that Remington used to offer that were very similar to the original Colt bullet.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

Yes and it works well altho 37 grs of Olde Eynsford tended to loosen the ejector rod housing screw after a dozen or so rounds but the velocity was sizzling
Long range rules, the rest drool.

Never ran that load from the rifle but generally a rifle will give you 150 gos max over the same load from a revolver
45 Colt just ain’t a speed demon even with smokeless
Long range rules, the rest drool.
