Is the stop pin for the sprue plate a push fit or is it threaded. I need to replace one.

Would entirely depend on the mold design. No maker or other information stated, so impossible to provide answer based on experience/knowledge.
More than likely a "Press" fit.

Likely pressed in. Remove and Replace with a "Roll Pin".

For why does it need replacement? Not exactly a wear part.

It's pressed in place.
Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway!

I was given the mold, it apprently broke off.
Okay a roll pin will work but may go in pretty tight. a dowel pin if the right size will also work here and may be a better fit. You also need to look st the sprue plate where it engages the pin it is the softer part enough force to break the pin probably has distorted that surface also.
Most that I have had to replace over the years have been press fit - but I suppose it could be threaded depending on who made the mold. I usually just cut a section of nail and use the drill press with a mill file and emery cloth to turn it down to allow for a press fit - put a drop of locktite on it and tap it in place - allow the locktite to set up and then trim to proper length and file the top square. Never have had a problem with them and have several st of blocks that have served well for decades.
