Took the Uberti New Model Army out to the line with some paper cartridges, 30 grains of Olde Eynsford under a Hornaday cast ball, target at 10 yards, roughly. I know there's a lot of better shots here, but I'll take that.





Yes, that's an old CCI shotshell box, works OK as a cartridge box for now, but a real one would be nice.

Left over paper in the cylinder and forcing cone, cigarette papers from the excellent kit from Guns of the West. Next time I will probably use the End Papers I snagged from a local beauty salon. Maybe nitrided. Either way, it was a good day.

When we used nitrated curler paper there wasn't anything left in the cylinder. Without the nitrate there was a little bit of the folded end left. Then we started holding the folded end with superglue gel and it burned nicely as well.

Made up some more cartridges today with a hybrid of the end papers and the cigarette paper rounds - I lacked a round cutter, and I'm to tired to try to cut all those little round bastiges...However, I think I am getting the hang of this, production went much faster and none of them fell apart.

Nice revolver, and good shooting! I love the '58, and other c&b revolvers too. When ammo gets hard to find I just tap out some caps, cast some balls, make some powder and keep shootin'!

Good shooting! A lot better than I could do. I haven’t shot a handgun in years. I never could shoot as well with a handgun. I qualified expert with the M 16, but couldn’t qualify for anything with a 1911.

Years ago I would nitrate onion skin paper and make paper cartridges for my 36 cal navy. I used a tapered stick and folded the ends, worked well. I wish I could shoot like that again. Nice pistol.

Curious, what is the round cutter for?

Well, the only thing I have to go on is my Guns of the West kit, and it came with roughly square pieces for the cylinder of the cartridge, then a bunch of round pieces that gets glued on the bottom like seen in that photo at the top, using a little 3D printed "forcing cone". I probably could have used something else, but in the interest of "I'm tired and want to go to bed soon" I just used the round brown ends.. .that doesn't sound right, does it...
