We keep these around. Close is best for sure.
The .45s and .410 have #9 in them.
The .45 is pump action only but that’s ok for not losing the special brass.
I should have put my wife’s favorite on there;
20 gauge #7-1/2 !

I was standing in a creek in Kentucky with my camera when a nine inch -about - diamond back was.swimming by under about a foot of water. Quick as lightning I stepped on it planning to grab it but the thrashing stirred silt so bad I couldn't tell where the head was. I couldnt think of a thing I could do to catch it and let it go. I was dreaming of carrying the snake around in a quart jar but like usual my plan came up empty
We had a constant supply of copperheads, moccasins and even corals in southeast Texas for the shot filled snubbies.
But a thousand miles north? I'd have to buy a rubber snake at the five and dime.
Like Indiana Jones, “I hate snakes!”. Well done! Can you buy the plastic shot capsules to load yourself?
I watch for the Indigos, we have three families that live on the farm, they keep the bad actors down to a whisper. They get to 8-9' long so no mistaking them while mowing. I just stop and let them get out of the way of the tractor.
I do not do, the no warning, poison jobs., they must just get gone.

No venomous snakes in my part of Illinois so we have a live and let live policy here at the compound.

Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.
I haven’t seen the Speer capsules in quite a while. And I’m out of them, too.
My wife and I let a 5 foot “Coachwhip” cross the well road yesterday as we made rounds.
They get long, and fast. We’ve always let them go to eat field rats and whatever else they eat.
Good snakes outnumber bad snakes……
My family has lost two dogs and a steer to snakes in eighty years on this place. Thankfully no body has been bitten, although close calls have happened.
Like that former Copperhead in the dog pen….

Been carrying my Taurus 5 shot model 85 regularly lately when out fishing. Oddly this year the snakes are kind of rare.
