Annealer for 50/70 and everything else

So you guys that have a 50/70,

I searched here and didn’t find much about using an annealer for 50/70. Tons on annealers just not including using it for 50/70.

What annealer do you use. I’m thinking of buying one. But I want it to do other brass as needed.

The AGS I like but doesn’t look like it will handle the rim diameter.

The EP 2.0 looks good and very adjustable. Just has the fragile drum

The annealeez looks ok but I’d probably have to get a 50 bmg kit. Anyone use this for 50/70?

The Giraud is more than I want to pay.

I’d prefer not to home build unless it is dirt cheap and not much time.

I feel like I’m missing an option or two in the $200-300 range.

    Comments or suggestions?

    Jason

I built this one. It will work with any caliber.

j4570 -- If it were me, I'd take a 50/70 case to a Lowe's, Home Depot or similar store that purveys deep sockets which are on display. Then, empirically find and select a deep socket which just holds the 50/70 case -- buy it. Then -- you can Google the process -- run a machine bolt through socket bottom, affix a lock-washer and nut, to enable it being chucked in a hand-held electric drill. (An el cheapo, say, Ryobi 18V works well!). Then, stand a Bernzomatic torch up with a medium flame.
Simply drop a case in drill-held socket; while socket is turning play the top of your case in the flame for a few seconds. (Too short = no annealing; too long = ruined case) Then simply lower drill/socket to drop now-annealed case into a pan (I use an old metal ice-cube tray from a 1950's fridge) of water.
Simple, cheap... and it works. (Btw, I too have/use a Giraud -- GREAT machine!).geo

If you look at the one he is selling, it is adjustable for larger calibers. It's an improvement over the one here. The ramp size and depth of the pan in the video I don't think would fit 50/70.

Here is his new one: https://www.epintegrations.com/produ...p-2-0-annealer

All I did was not cut the cake pan and then add a spacer on the pan for the main calibers I have. I just add or remove spacers as I need them. More spacers for 223, less for 30-06.

I see the OP indicated it has a fragile drum, is that due to it being a smaller thickness? Is that the concern?

I do my 50-70s on an Anneeleez with the Super Short Magnum wheels. Works great. I also found I can run my 45-70s and 30-40 Krags on the same wheels no problems.

The case holder on mine will work for cases up to 50 BMG. From 17 Hornet to 50 BMG just requires torch height adjustments. No additional parts or conversions needed.

I dont spose you are needing to anneal hundreds. Stand em up on a steel plate and use a propane torch. Simple.

Hundreds no. Maybe a hundred. But wanted to do a few other calibers as well.

The socket idea is what I’ll default too if needed.

The holes in my bench source annealer plate runs .715-.745. I had it on the top shelf and didn't bother to set it lower when I checked it with dial calipers. Is that big enough? Same hole handles my .223 brass.

50-70 is 0.660 rim diameter. That one would work too.

I have an Annealeez with a set of each size wheels. Have not found any case I can't do other than the 50 BMG. Right now I do .44 WCF, .45 Colt, .38-55, .444, .45-70, .30-40 Kreg, .308, 5.56, and 30-06.

Annealing some 30-40 krag with the drill-n-socket method.

Most annealers on the market are more designed for rimless than rimmed. I use a " Sagebrush "rotary annealer. In fact I have 2 . This will do all sizes of Large rimmed items or standard rimless cases. It is semi automatic , you place the case on the turntable.
