    Heat treat oven

I’m in the process of building a heat treat oven. Specs : 120V, 10.9 Ohms, 11 AMPS, 1320 Watts, 3.17W per sq cm surface load on wire (16 ga Kanthal), Internal dimensions 7”Wide x 4” Tall x 12.5” Deep

Plan on heat treating bullet swage dies and maybe a few knives. Will also use it to anneal cartridge brass for swaging.

Way to go! A worthy project and much more affordable than a commercial made one. I need to get a round tuit and do something similar. Thanks for the motivation!

Looks nice. I think I am more jealous of the fact that you can make bullet swaging dies. I wish I could make a slug die for my 22 Air Venturi Avenger. Dag slug mold will cost 10 times the gun. Congrats.

Looks good what is the outer covering going to be? Is it going to be oxygen free atmosphere?

The outer covering will be metal but I will have a 1” thick layer of ceramic fiber blanket in between the firebrick and sheet metal. It will not be an oxygen free oven. Being that most all my swage dies will require post heat treat machining I am not too worried about how ugly they come out of the furnace. Honing or hand polishing will remove any surface scale/junk from HT. I’ve also got some stainless foil if I feel motivated lol
