    Saeco 24 valve rod question

Hello, I picked up this saeco pot as shown. Is this valve rod missing something or perhaps wrong all together?

Trying to get it together to replace/backup my lee 20lb.

    Thank you

Been years since I had a SAECO pot but IIRC that looks right. Nice touch it came with a mold guide.

Thank you, I guess ill try a good cleaning. I thought it might need to be tapered to block the nozzle. It dripped constantly. I also have a lyman 61 im waiting for, so I will have something to compare to.

Here's a couple pics of the valve rod from my Lyman 61, the Saeco 24 should be the same.

Thank you! That looks like it makes way more sense. I can turn something close in the lathe. I'll wait till i get my lyman 61 and do some measuring.

Try it before you find you messed it up.

Don't change a thing. That's the way it's supposed to look.

thats the way mine looked also. I always thought it should have had a small tip like the lyman in the pic has. mine showed no evidence of one being broke off. mine leaked more than I liked. I tried lapping with valve grinding compound and that helped some. installed a spring on handle to put downward pressue on the stopper and that helped some more. never got it to stop leaking completely. I would imagine the secret is to get the bottom of the hole completely clean and the end of the rod clean and trued to fit the bottom of the hole and it should seal. good luck.

That is the way mine looks. (Post 1)
I have a drilled out 30-06 casing attached to it with a hose clamp, for my PID. It sits about a half inch off the bottom. Mine doesn't leak but every so often, just a little extra downward pressure on the valve usually stops it! If it gets to bad I empty the pot clean it with a wire wheel and get back to casting!

Is the small diameter of the rod ~.186" and ~1.245" in length below the taper?

The narrow portion of mine after the taper is .205 wide .865 long. Going off memory as I measured a bit ago.

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time. There's quite a difference between that one and mine. Will be interesting to see how your incoming 61 will compare.
