    Head Scratcher on 7.62x39 Ammo

I have acquired some ammo in 7.62 by 39. Headstamp is 539 and opposite on head is 76. I believe this is ammo from the Tula plant in Russia and made in 76? I wonder if anyone knows whether this ammo is corrosive primed?? Case has a copper wash over steel.

I don't for sure know that it is, but you should "assume" that it is. I do remember when that all came in, it was referred to as "mildly corrosive".

Yeah, right.............kinda like being slightly pregnant.

Thanks for the reply. I have sanded a piece of steel and used the anvil to hold a piece of brass with primer for a test. I used a phillips head screwdriver for a firing pin and tapped the primer, usual safety procedures in place. I left the primer debri exposed steel on the back porch and will see if rust develops in the exposed area.

It is very unlikely that it was made in 76. There is always a small chance that Russian ammo may be slightly corrosive due to both types of primers being made in house, it is documented being the case.
These men and their hypnotized followers call this a new order. It is not new. It is not order.

Update; Slight flash rusting on the metal so will treat as corrosive and use for range sessions. Thanks for the reply's!
