Question about Lee Classic Cast shellholder insert

I unscrewed the shellholder insert from the top of the ram on my Lee Classic Cast press. The bottom end of it is slotted 4 places like a collet. What is the purpose of the slitted portion ?

The bottom of mine looks like this....

But It does not have that "twisted" geometry at the top end, it looks more like this which Titan says is for the Classic cast press. The one they picture does not have the "collet" looking feature though.

OK so this picture shows better the feature I am referring to.

Oooooohhh you're not supposed to pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

Didja ask Lee Precision or Titan Reloading?
If it was easy, anybody could do it.
