I have one not sure if it's a long one how fare is it between the mounting screws

The Mounting screw distance is the same on both Long and Short

That's Not it - Look on ebay at "Remington 788 rear sight" and you will see the Long version of just the sight base. If I can't find one here, i'll just get one there

The rear sight hole spacing on both my 7mm-08 and 30-30 rem 788 barrels is 0.5715". I read somewhere one sight would be taller than the other, considering the calibers barrel length, or vise versa. Makes sense but I never researched the height differences as both my 788's are scoped.
