    Hs 7 ???

Hey guys. I received a lb of HS7 sometime back from a friend. I know it can be used for shotgun loads, but I don't load for shotgun. Just wondering if anyone has used it for cast loads. I haven't been able to find any useful load data for it.

    Thanks in advance,
    GunnyJohn

25-20 and 44 mag. You can also search the web for loads for 45 colt I think

Manuals for years around the 2001 linked above may have additional data

If memory serves, it was one of the first-choice powders used to make .38 Super handloads perform in "Major" class. I thought it was discontinued then re-introduced as W570 or W571 or, now, W572?

    Hello:
HS 7 is discontinued . I originally stated HS6 was also discontinued and that is not corrected - Its Still Available ( MY OOOPS )
    Hogdons has confirmed.
HS6 is same as WW540 Powder.
HS7 is same as WW571 Powder
HP38 is same as WW231 Powder
And HS7 is used in 9mm @ 10.3 grains with a 115 gr fmj - Comment was doesnt get up to speed thooo ?
Its also used in 38super @ 7.2 grains with a 158 gr slug at 1083 fps from info i found.
I did see info where it was used in 45acp but with 230 grain slugs as powder is suited for 230gr in the 45acp.
Also saw its used in 45 long colt.
Further search for your caliber would be the way to go for further info.

A while back I picked up 16lbs for $40 from a guy who had bought out an estate sale. So far it seems to work fne in the 10mm, 357 and .40 S&W. Data is out there just pick up some of the older manuals.

HS7/571 was "THE" powder for 20 gauge 3" 1 1/4 oz loads. Nothing else comes close. I would love to find a couple of pounds of it to load some 1 1/4 oz loads. I have found other powders, but they are not as easy to produce loads with.

I wouldn't use HS7 in rifles, but there should be data out there for it for handguns. It filled a very similar niche as bluedot does, so anything that works good with bluedot should work with HS7. It's probably not going to work good for light target loads. I'd be looking at 357 mag, 44 mag, or very strong loads in 9mm luger or 38 special. It probably works great in 10mm auto. I'd have to look, but I'm not sure if I've seen 45 acp data. What handgun cartridge's are you interested in?

HS 7 is used in rifles for reduced loads from 30/30 thru 45/70. Many larger cases. Go to gmdr.com, look up reduced loads. I’ve used it in 45/70 with 405gr cast at mouse fart levels. For me Blue Dot, Red Dot and Unique was more accurate.£

Based on my experience with it, I think it would be ok in 41. It’s dense so be careful. I’m the same speed range as blue dot.
