Has anyone seen a true rimless 380 Auto cartridge?
This was found while sorting out my junk ammo, mostly found or reloading boo-boo's.
I suspect a manufacture defect.

I'd say defect...there would be no way to extract it from a chamber.....or it could have been made as a projectile. Seeing that it's primed...I doubt the later.

What info is on the headstamp?
Wow. I haven’t seen that since….Never!
How in the world did it get loaded?
I guess the loading machinery doesn’t use shell holders?

Interesting, might be worth some free ammo. GW
How old is it? I wouldn't be surprised if it was during an election year or covid, when manufacturers were doing everything they could to get product out the door.
Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF.
Could have been from a test run lot to see if the rim was needed, since 380's are blowback anyway. No rim saves on brass costs. Huh. Wonder....

In my time I've seen factory ammo with:
Bullets seated backwards
Bullets not fully swaged to shape
Bullets seated off-center (crushed case mouth)
Primers in sideways or backwards
No flash hole drilled in the primer pocket
A single round of one type of a manufacturer's duty round mixed in with a box of ANOTHER of their duty rounds.
+P stamped brass used to load ammo boxed as non-+P (verified by disassembly)
But totally rimless and not an 1800's pinfire round? That is indeed a first.

Is the mightiness of the pen still relevant after we roll the writing paper into cartridges for a Sharps?
I discovered a blowback 22 LR (Ruger 10/22) doesn't need an extractor to fire and cycle just like it was designed that way . It fed , fired and ejected shots as if nothing was amiss ... I only noticed the extractor missing when I went to unload a chambered round ... the round simply stayed in the chamber ... that was when I noticed that the extractor was ...gone .
My habit is to load 5 or 10 rounds and shoot them all ... this time I decided to not fire the chambered round ... I thing it must have been blown off when an overly hot Winchester Wildcat round was fired ... that lot of ammo was recalled by Winchester ... but it was a while before I realized the extractor had gone bye-bye ! Ruger repaired the gun and gave me a new magazine !

Interesting! That would e worth building a display case around it - an oddity for sure.
