    Wrap It Up.

A great friend gifted me a leather lever wrap for the Marlin yesterday. For my first attempt at such I'm happy with it, and it's easy on the fingers too. Anyone else a wrapper?

Some years back I read an ad for an incredibly low-priced 2001 made Winchester Model 94AE Timber Carbine in .444 Marlin. The low-price reason? Hubby of seller dropped it from a tree-stand and lever got quite bent. I bought it, and took it to a shade-tree gunsmith who installed an after-market lever which -- funtion -- works perfectly. EXCEPT the edges were/are sharp enough to cut skin (I know this )! Faced with the choice of filing edges (take away bluing) of the lever, or covering it -- I chose the latter. I bought some silicon foam tape from local True-Value hardware store, wrapped it, and have enjoyed shooting it (no band aids necessary!) since.
This was "pre-Amazon" -- but a quick look now shows they purvey a similar tape. That which I used has no "real" glue -- you just wrap it (I believe it was made for rake, shovel, hammers, and similar tool handles) -- and it sticks.
    What I did...

Very nice job ! I love the looks but worry about moisture and rusting under the wrap.

I'll let the next generation that owns it worry about that.

    Hi Greg,
Haven't wrapped any of mine, but they are all older guns that don't really have sharp edges that I have noticed.

We'll get together sometime and I'll let you shoot Tommy Adkins' 45-70.

I did not go as fancy as you. Just camo paracord on a Win 94 post 64. Removed the safety, wrapped the lever. Made a big difference on my knuckles working the action.

It shoots well enough but my H&R .30-30 20 ga combo will out shoot it hands down. Of course the H&R has a 2.5 moa Red Dot sight on it which helps a lot.
I truly believe we need to get back to basics.

    Get right with the Lord.
    Get back to the land.
Get back to thinking like our forefathers thought.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you
and give you His peace. Let all of the earth – all of His creation – worship and praise His name! Make His
    praise glorious!

I'll second this. Especially if you live in the part of the world where it gets humid. It really doesn't take long for humidity and leather to rust and badly pit levers.

Sadly, I know this from experience.
