Trying a new finish, after smoothing to a good finish, coat with 'super glue' then spray with acetone. The glue will dry to a very gloss finish in just 10 to 20 seconds.

Your post brings up, to me, several queries. To wit, available to me cyanoacrylate adhesive both comes in rather small containers -- ~20 grams as largest -- not at a very low cost (~$8.50 USD) either. Advertised is a "20-second" time before drying. My curiosity is piqued both in how one might fully, evenly coat an entire wooden pistol grip before it commences to dry. I can envision, perhaps, the small pieces as on, say, a 1911 semi-auto's grip inserts... But -- for an actual wrap-around grip?
Acetone -- (CH3)2CO -- is a great solvent for plastics, most 2-part epoxies (before they harden).. and cyanoacrylates. I can envision your acetone spray perhaps retarding the superglue drying, but cannot envision any change other than perhaps -- from its solvent properties perhaps smoothing the applied superglue out.
I'd really love to see some photos?

Does the two part "super glue" products with an actuator allow for the glue to not dry for a longer period of time? I have not tried them but if the glue requires the actuator then it might work from that perspective.
sorry, but i have a hard time evisioning (sp?) that finish without a lot of high and low streaks.
