Murf, I am liking your boolit and revolver.
Why, oh why did I let the 25-2 go?

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing and it took forever to find one that I didn't have to hock my first born for. Thanks to a friend who knows I have a baaaad S&W habit, he offered this one up. It is going to be with me until..... I've never seen a 25-anything shoot poorly, even one with big throats after they were fed the right diameter boolit. My first one was a Colt and I bought it for a song but somebody offered me $225 more than I paid and I bit foolishly. Big mistake.

Here, as promised, an S prefix serial number S&W M&P-- might date as far back as 1948-50. Very smooth long action. Got to try it out soon.....

That looks like a sock drawer gun. It definitely was not left in a leather holster. Pencil barrel M&P's are cool guns. I promise a new one is not finished or fitted as well as that one. There is a reason why early Colts and Smith&Wessons cost what they do.

    DG,

Your revolver is probably older than you guess. The short action was introduced to the K frame in April, 1948.

The only way to be sure when it shipped is to contact Dr. Roy Jinks. When he left S&W, they gave him all of the old records.

Knowledge I take to my grave is wasted.

I prefer to use cartridges born before I was.

Success doesn't make me happy, being happy is what allows me to be successful.

Could be. I took a guess on material from "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson". Either way, it's a keeper!

My dad & I attended a gun show back in the 80s.

Both Skeeter fans, I happened on a nickel, 5” models
    27 wearing a tag of $225.

Even at that price, with two kids and a wife who couldn’t (wouldn’t) work, I couldn’t justify the expenditure.

10 minutes and one aisle later, dad stops & says “ that was a good deal, wasn’t it?”
    “Yeah”
    “Then let’s go get it”

    Alas, already gone.

Just as well. I probably would have had to sell it during the divorce 12 years later.
