    Goop as bore cleaner?

I just got the latest issue of a popular gun periodical with an article about cleaning solutions. It lists the hand cleaner "Goop" to clean out black powder grime. I've never heard of using that. Does anyone have thoughts or experience with it?

Not a Gwyneth Paltrow fan. If it does work, we need flood the reviews with how well it works as a gun cleaner.

Yeah, well guys still use gasoline to clean car parts without gloves too.

    I'm not one of them.

Nothing like gasoline to clean nasty car parts. First step for cleaning your greasy hands. Saves a lot on Gojo.

WATER is all that's needed to clear out black powder residue.

SMARTS helps heaps - meaning, keep the dang residue soft and it'll clear out easy as apple pie ala mode.

Gojo is an essential part of my muzzle loading kit. I keep a bottle for cleaning my hands after a shooting session. Hot water and Dawn is what I use for cleaning when I get home.

I use Goop to clean a 1906 Colt New Service Target in 455 Eley with black powder loads to avoid water in the cylinder/crane/ extractor. It works well, is quick and no rust.

Goop does make a great hand cleaner, but I would not want to use the formulation containing pumice on a rifled barrel.

My question would be, "Why?" The old ballistol and water mix works just fine. You won't get rust with it. The water evaporates and leaves the oil. I can't imagine trying to get goop out of a bore.

A can of compressed air will also help get rid of unwanted water in hard-to-reach places. An air compressor would be better.

The GOOP hand cleaner that I remember didn’t have any pumice in it. There was a GoJo hand cleaner that did, but GOOP and GoJo are not the same.

Yup, all this is not what I know as GOOP either....but, I keep asking myself why? Why would one choose GOOP when there so much other good "stuff" out there?
To each his own, I guess. And, Perhaps that's how it should be.
