Looks like 8mm Lebel, the deep groove on base/head was to hold the sharp point of the bullet in the tube feed magazine. It was the first smokeless powder cartridge adopted by the military - France. A few dimensions would help.
O.A.L.=2.95"
Base diameter=0.62"
Case O.A.L.=1.97"
Bullet Dia.=0.33"
Neck Dia.=0.35
Hope this helps.

Very likely 8mm Lebel, as said by MostlyLeverGuns. Bullet diameter is in the ball park for 8mm, and the case looks like a Lebel.

I believe you have correctly identified this cartridge, Thanks.

If it is 8mm with the curve rather than a straight tapper and the groove on the case head certainly would seem to make it the 8mm lebel. IIRC, the gun and the cartridge were designed in something like 12 months by the order of the French Minister of Defense.
However shortly thereafter, in January 1886, a new revanchist French war minister, General Georges Ernest Boulanger, threw these plans into a garbage bin and requested the urgent application of these two technical breakthroughs to the design of a new infantry rifle.[6] He appointed General Tramond in charge of the project which had to be completed within one year.
For future reference - Imgur has software flaws that continue to enable data breaches and malware propagation.
Better to post pictures directly onto the Cast Boolits site.

I used to post pics directly from my computer to this site, however, lately I have not been able to do so for some reason. Perhaps I have reached an allotted quota of some sort or I'm just too ignorant with computers, which in reality I am. That is why I started using IMGUR. If you can share a hosting site that is user friendly it would be appreciated.

Now that you bring it up....I have no idea how to delete files from the upload bank, but I'm going to inquire.
The only other site I know anything about is Photobucket. My kids use it, and I wish they wouldn't. It exposes the metadata in your photos to hackers, who can develop a clear pattern to your movements, thus knowing, for example, when to burgle your house.

Took awhile but here is the protocolfor deleting uploaded attachments:

Scroll down to post #3. It works - I tried it.

I use postimages and I have no complaints. I use Imgur for another sight but i don’t care for it.
