    7.8x78 cartridge

I just picked up a German O/U Cape gun in 16 ga. and what is marked on the rifle barrel as a 7.8/78mm. I did a chamber cast and it is a 78mm long slender, tapered cartridge. I cannot find out much about it. I'll try to post pictures later. Anyone ever run into such a cartridge?

By any chance does the back end of the chamber have the same dimensions as a 9.3x74R? If so and you were to full length size 9.3x74R brass you would pick up a little length.

The rim dimension on my barrel is .517. I'm not following. I understand the lengthening. How would that reduce the neck down to 7.8mm? I have no idea what dies to get for it.

Try Huntington Die Specialties or a die set, no doubt it'll be a special order item but they'll make most anything.

Measuring a RWS 9.3 case I'm getting a 0.522" rim and 0.463" on the body ahead of the rim.

Yes, .318 would be right for the bore.

I know that the 8,15x46R cartrigde has a way long leade and maybe this one has one too, and that might fool you?
These old BP cartridges has typically a very roomy threoat/leade to accomodate for BP fouling.
