This belongs to a buddy. Apparently it is quite an issue these days to acquire the parts to convert this to centerfire from Rimfire. Regardless he finally got everything needed to get back out to the range with it.. Perhaps he will chime in here and tell us about it.

What you all think of this 1863 56-56????

What do I think? I think I like it a lot!

They're fun to shoot but it takes a bit of fiddling to get everything just right so they will feed.

    Tell your friend to enjoy!

Yes it did take some fiddling but I did get the replacement centerfire block fitted after some filing. Next was getting loaded cases to correct overall length to feed. The issue now is accuracy. The gun has a great bore but being a tapered bore determining the correct sized heeled bullet is tricky.

    Beautiful!
The icing on the cake would be to find a Blakeslee loader.

I had a Spencer repro made by Chiappa in 44-40, which was great fun to shoot.

Wanna know something else… when I was over at my friends fiddling around and admiring it, I ended up knocking it over and watched in horror as it fell to the shop floor… LOL

It enabled 7 rounds to be loaded very quickly, the loader carried 10 tubes of 7 rounds each in a leather box.

Armi Chiappa used to make a good repro.

There was a quality gun shop in Central New York called the Alamo Gun Shop. Run by a guy named Larry R. Think it's out of business now. He made those from scratch and they were a pure work of art. Read about it in one of the gun mags.

Dang that's not something you see every day even in civil war country. Thanks for sharing.

Knocked it over eh? Glad y'all were friends to start... that certainly doesn't make it any easier to make new friends.

Wow, that Blakeslee Box Is awesome. Pricey too. But museum pieces like that aren't very many.

An interesting tidbit is that that John Johnston used a spencer rifle after his time in the union during the civil war.

I had an accurate mold made. Casts a .545" heeled bullet of around 460 grains. Trimmed starline 56-50 cases. Case full of ffg and let her rip.

I've always been told I'm a patient man. So I let it slide. Now if he Marco wouldn't have said anything well that old spencer may have caused another casuality!

I learned the hard way about guns and knocking them around. But not with a keeper like that!! Now they lay down or in a solid place or case.

I was lucky enough to shoot a circa 1865 Spencer rifle, that a shooting buddy brought to the range last week.

Here is a video of me shooting my M1871 Springfield Spencer infantry rifle. These were made by Springfield Armory from M1865 Burnside carbines.

Beats the hell out of a muzzleloader for rate of fire.
