Looking for load data with 300gr. And 405gr. Boolits.
My 4th addition Lyman shows nothing.
Looking for about 1500fps out of my Marlin 1895.
And of course looking for top accuracy.
Want to knock steel rams down at 250yd.
Thanks.

You didn't mention what you are shooting, some of the loads will destroy a Trapdoor.

Lyman 50th does not list unique or 2400.
Do you have any 3031/4227/4198/varget/rx7?? Under 1886 Winchester and 1895 Marlin it shows much data for these above 1500ft/sec with 292/330/400/405 grain cast bullets.
I will look at my books but will not be able to get back to you until tomorrow. I use unique over the 405g lee.

I have never done 45-70. However experimenting with 308/357/38/303 it seems to me 2400 is slightly faster than 4227.
Maybe someone with a pressure estimation software can see if calculated safety to 1500 velocity is reasonable with 2400.
I wonder why 2400 and unique are not listed in my book???
I think the older lyman 47th is supposed to have Data.
Anyone here that can post a pic of the page or pm me the data?

Holy Cow!
I just found lyman Ideal Handbook #40 and Lyman 41st edition on my shelf.

My Henry single shot really likes 12.8 grains Unique with an LP primer under a 300 grain boolit.
Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF.
The Lyman 44 has the data you are looking for.

Here's a ton of data for low velocity loads ( not just 45-70 )

I use 10.5g-12g Unique for a low recoil shots over the 405g lee bullet. Honestly I use 10.5g more often as I am cheap and just need plinking loads. Should find a lighter mold as it will use less lead and kick less.

I'll try to post pictures of the data from the Lyman number Three Cast Bullet Handbook. I don't think you can get to the velocities you want with Unique but probably can with 2400. The pick that doesn't show the bullet weight is 293 grains. I shoot 12 grains Unique with both a 405 grain and a 365 grain bullet for a nice mild load.
Good Luck to you!
Rick
Favorite loads of mine are 12 gr. Unique under a 300-350 grain boolit for 1100-1150fps. 400 grain boolits get 24gr of 2400 or 28gr of 5744 for about 1350fps. The 400 grain loads closely duplicate the the original BP velocity. You don't need 1500fps to knock over the rams, even the 300 grain at 1150 is reliable with a reasonable hit and much more pleasant with regards to recoil. I suspect the lawyers are responsible for the Unique/2400 being absent from the newer manuals, afraid of someone not paying attention and double charging a case. Seems today no one is responsible for their own actions.
You didn't specify cast or J bullets. Lyman 45th lists 300 gr j with 2400, 30 grs/1658, max 34gr/1870
With 405 J 27 grs/1355, max 32 grs/1582
Today I tried 21 & 22gr. Of 2400
Under 300pb and 405gc.
Not to bad, but 1 flyer in each group
Going to try the same loads again.

Lyman 44th Edition link below has 292 grain cast and also 405 grain cast data using Unique
