    Grey Zinc-Rich primer

I was given some bags of powder. One is labeled Grey Zinc-Rich Primer.

Would you use it, given that we don't want zinc in our alloys?

What's a powder coating primer, anyway?

I've tried a couple other of the powders. One gave real blotchy results (blue) but I don't think that will affect performance. As long as the boolits are coated they should shoot ok. One color is a black with a slight ruby-red tinge. I like it a lot.

There is no name brand on these powders and the bags only contain a few ounces each.

    Thoughts????

Do you think the person who gave them to you believed they were for powder coating bullets? Reason I ask is that you used to be able to buy aluminum and zinc powders that could be mixed with a clear lacquer carrier to make galvanized paint. That might be what you have, rather than something to apply to reloading components.

Being free, I try it and see what ya got.

If it works-- fine. If not, you aren't losing much by throwing it away..

No. They don't know it is for boolits. I don't tell people I shoot.

I'll probably keep the black and pitch the rest. It doesn't adhere as well as the stuff from Smoke.
