Finished up my Lead bullet Die

Had some time to finish up my lead bullets die in 45 cal. Turned out pretty decent. My bleed hole is too small or I might need more than just the one. I didn’t have any pure lead so I just reformed some wheel weight 180 grn 40 cals. I’m wondering if pure lead would bleed off even though the wheelweights won’t. Anyway, it’s a start.

Just some information, Corbin uses three equally spaced bleed holes on the 1.5" core dies.

Thanks for that info KAYDADOG. Are they .062ish? I know they are relieved, but curious on size of hole that breaks out into the bore. Thx!

The hole size that breaks into the bore of the swaging die is 0.062".
Trying to get WW alloy to bleed out of a 0.062" diameter hole will require some serious pressure. A Hydropress would be in order.

you shouldn’t have any trouble bleeding lead with a Corbin CSP-1 which is what your press looks like. I don’t know if the powder coating would matter, but it might. Try an un coated bullet. Yes, softer is better.

I think the main reason the squirt hole is counterbored is so that the lead doesn’t have any resistance in the die other than at the die opening.
