Your FAVORITE GRIPS for the 1911...?

I love looking at the many 1911's...only thing better than looking is to handle one...kinda like 'getting a good feel of her'!

My first 1911 was a double stack Para Ordinance 14-45...I fell in love at first glance. She sports thin rubber grips that feel great for a large hand...I never changed them...

Later I acquired a Colt...it has had many grips come & go including a custom made set or Rams Horn. I was happy for a while...

I thought the stag grips I had made for the Kimber would look better on the Colt so I switched and had a set of special stag made for the Kimber. I wanted to have a grip that would fit my large hand better and at the same time have a better tactical feel...maybe that's the wrong description, I wanted it to actually grip better & not slip. I asked the guy who made them to look for thicker slabs of stag to start & don't sand them down where the white shows through.

They are not as stylish as the Colt's grips but they have that feel of the Para 14-45 because of the extra thickness.
    I am satisfied now.

What are your favorite grips for your 1911's...you don't have to have any special reasons other than you like the way they look or feel...
Post your pictures and let us all admire your collection of 1911's.

Have several beautiful wood grips. For shooting my 1911's wear VZ. Recently I found Guun Grips that caught my eye, G10 with impressive checkering and colors. AND 1/2 the price of VZ GW

Extremely well done and cheap! Paid about half of what they are asking now, texture is really nice, even with sweaty hands but not so aggressive that I feel like I'm being skinned when shooting.

I think attractive stocks on a pistol are very cool, but I try to keep their dimensions as close to stock, or "minimalist" as I can. Since "Murphy" and I are constant companions, I try not to over-embellish anything on my defensive pistols. Among other things, one never knows when they might have to pick up someone else's sidearm and finish a crisis. Simpler is usually better, but "ugly" is not required.

I have a set of faux wood VZ grips on my kimber, but I like the looks of the "GUUN" grips shown above, and you could buy a cheap box of ammo with the money you save.

I go two different ways for 1911 grips - pretty grips for show, Hogue wrap around grips with finger grooves for serious shooting.

These came from Turkey and the pistol was included. They’ll do!

Great taste! Sure glad one of use is smart enough to post pictures and links. As I said found at a gun show and had never heard of them. GW

"Thank you TEX for showing the WHOLE ENCHILADA!"

What I'm trying to say is that I would like to see pictures like Tex here has shown. I hope this thread will end up 'a great picture thread' of the 'Beloved 1911' dressed up in all her glory with all different grips...(&)...sights & slide styles & triggers & and beaver tails & all the neat stuff that us diehard 1911 lovers love to look at.

My #1 1911 is on a stainless frame, and for looks (to MY eyes) nothing beats a set of Stag grips, similar to those on the OP's stainless! However, for target shooting I have an X-Acto knife cut piece of shirt cardboard behind the wood grips which came with pistol. I started with just one cardboard spacer behind left grip (I shoot right-handed) but added one, too, behind right grip. Seems to work tons better with my hand size.

Looks and function mean different grips to me. While stag grips and such look good to me I don't like how they feel. I either use Pachmayr or Hogue for shooting.

It really depends on the finish. There's nothing finer than pre-ban ivory on a high luster blued 1930s pre-war 1911A1. That one went away regrettably.

Currently the most recent build wears checkered dbl diamond rosewood with Colt medallions. Grain matched on both sides.

I love the look of wood or antlered grips on a 1911 pistol.
That said, my 1911 pistols wear checkered G10 grip panels. During warm weather, my hands sweat. These grips give me much better control.

I use thin checkered wood Pachmayrs on my BHP and would do the same on a 1911 if I had one.
