I use VZ G10 grips on all of my 1911 & Para that I shoot in matches, best grip I have found in the last 50 years of shooting.

Ancient Bianchi wrap-around on my 1934 Colt Gov't. For close and fast shooting you need something that won't shift around in your hand. The mainspring housing is Pachmayr rubber covered.

Holster on right is Galco horsehide IWB. On the left is Bianchi Askins Avenger. My favorite of all the holsters. Its gotta be close to 40 yrs old!

I would have to say. Stag followed by bone/horn then G10. But different for different style pistols.

Did you watch the Ga Shooters chat a couple weeks ago? This was a topic.

I decided I wanted grip and feel
More than looks , though I have a set of Osage Orange grips for a 1911
    30 years ago I traded 2 chunks 3" x 8" x 5 feet for several sets of grips
My Grand Father stuck a BUNCH of slabs of wood up on a platform in the hay barn
I was told by dad most of the wood was put up there around 1950
LOL so the wood has had a chance to dry

But what has been on both my 1911's is Pachmayr Signature wrap around grips for years

I sometimes like the old school checkered walnut but the feel of real Ivory is nice. This is mammoth.

One of my favorite comfort/function grip combinations is the vz grips and the rubber finger grooves.

This is a long slide in 460 rowland.

I’d like to see those Bois d Arc( Osage Orange, horse apple) grips!
That is a tough wood. I recently pulled up some fence posts made of it that my dad put in the ground sixty years ago.

    "LIKE!"

And...thank you for posting a picture instead of dialogue.

I had my Colt SAA done in Mammoth...it is awesome but too slick for heavier loads.

Where did you get those? Boone? I'm thinking of getting one of those std manufacturing saa's..a set of Ivory grips would be nice on it.

It's been some years since I bought the SAA but...my Smith sent it back east somewhere for the Mammoth and it took 6 weeks to get it back. The Smith kept it a month after that as they slicked the action and worked the trigger.
Colt is not the best suited for heavy loads at all... you might think of Ruger if you want a hand cannon.

I don't...BP only in my saa's or light smokeless loads. I have a 500 mag for punishing recoil.

My first 1911 was a double stack Para Ordinance 14-45...I fell in love at first glance. She sports thin rubber grips that feel great for a large hand...I never changed them...

Later I acquired a Colt...it has had many grips come & go including a custom made set or Rams Horn. I was happy for a while...

I thought the stag grips I had made for the Kimber would look better on the Colt so I switched and had a set of special stag made for the Kimber. I wanted to have a grip that would fit my large hand better and at the same time have a better tactical feel...maybe that's the wrong description, I wanted it to actually grip better & not slip. I asked the guy who made them to look for thicker slabs of stag to start & don't sand them down where the white shows through.

They are not as stylish as the Colt's grips but they have that feel of the Para 14-45 because of the extra thickness.
    I am satisfied now.

What are your favorite grips for your 1911's...you don't have to have any special reasons other than you like the way they look or feel...
Post your pictures and let us all admire your collection of 1911's.
I love the Pachmayr grips for a 1911. When I got my Tisas Zig M1911, I was broke, and could barely afford it. One of the kind members here had a goodie box that had a Pachmayr grip, slightly modified, among many other things, for much less than just a new grip would cost, and I've been very happily using that grip ever since!

Here's a set of walnut grips made by one of my sons for my Christmas present 8-10 yrs ago. The wood came from a tree downed on our KY farm.

He finished them with tung oil and with an exact fit. They're my stand out favorites on this Ruger CMD, with a Colt .38 Super upper mounted. They're smooth finished and a perfect choice for CC use as my shirt tails/jacket skirts never catch on them. Best regards, Rod

VZ 320 G10 type grips. Some texture but not at all abrasive. Good for high and low round count range sessions.

I had a set of Magpul's on my Eclipse Target that a buddy of mine had stipled. They were grippy, but would chew on a shirt.
Back in the fall, I bought a Dan Wesson Specialist with VZ's and hated them. Think grabbing a wood rasp.

Soooo, I ordered a set of Wilson Combat G10 Black Starbursts for the Kimber and LOVE THEM!!! And, cause they had to be pretty, ordered a set of the cherry finished wood Starbursts for the DW. They're a bit slicker, but grippy enough.

Hate to be a Poser with WC grips on my non-WC pistols, but, man, I like 'em!

BTW, if I ever own a nice Colt or Alchemy 1911 with pretty bluing, I'll go smooth American Holly for the BBQ gun win!

A quick survey of the safe says Hogues are my favorite, 3 out of 5. All the "shooters" wear them. They're a little large for my wife's gun, and I did leave the originals on the 1915 SA.
