    Alloy Calculator Question

When using the Alloy Calculator, are the % values for Sn, Sb, Pb in % weight or % volume?

So if I have 1 LBS bar of 50/50 Pb/Sn then it really is only .5 x 7 / 11 = 0.31 Lbs tin (factoring the density of tin to lead)?

Hmm, being doing this wrong then because I just figured 50% of 1 Lbs was equal to 0.5Lbs without considering the density.

So the question is, how many factor in the density of Tin to Lead when adding Tin to an alloy?

Weight is weight. A lb of feathers weighs the same as a pound of lead. Just takes up more room. If you have 50/50 Lead/Tin bar, half of the bar is not tin. Half of the weight is tin. Forget density. Just measure the metal on a scale and make the mix based upon the raw weight of each metal. 20/1 lead/tin would be 20 lb of lead and 1 lb of tin.

Think about it, how would you measure the volume of a metal. You'd have to melt it and pour it into some kind of measure cup. Just not practical.
    Regards,

Thanks for reply. So 50/50 Sn/Pb bar is by weight not volume, simple enough. Did you know that a true pound of feathers will weigh less than a true pound of lead unless weighed in a vacuum?
