I am wondering if I can reline my Lyman deerstalker 50cal with a diameter turned down stainless barrel for a liner?
I'd still have a carbon steel breech plug, but that's ok
My barrel is pitted.

Call Bobby Hoyt.
He has Relined several barrels for me.
Not in Stainless , but that is a good Idea
He can also rebore and refresh your barrel for less

Not sure what you mean by diameter turned ? I have used dozens of used rifle barrels and turned them down to use as a rifle liner in a shotgun barrel. You could do the same in a muzzleloader for a 50 cal. It would probably need to be approximately 7/8” OD.

The liners on the Muzzleloaders that I had Hoyt do for me are about 3/4" diameter I think , or maybe a little less.
I had him do several in .50 and two back to .54.
But if you are not concerned about the caliber.
Just have the .50 barrel rebored to .54.
He will cut the rifling twist to whatever twist that you want.
I had him rebore a .56 Smooth bore to .61 cal with 1:60 twist.
I stayed with Slow Twist since I prefer to shoot round balls out of mine.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!
I've never been real happy with how it shot. They are rifled 1x48 and I shoot a heavy maxi-hunter.
Stainless is appealing as well.
I need to find a suitable donor barrel.
I would look at the crown real close, pitting in a barrel doesn't mean it won't shoot accurately. If the crown is dinged, dented or pitted it can easily be cleaned up and bring back accuracy.
