Hi guys, I have a bunch of Federal Field & Target hulls, (12 gauge) and I'm wondering what they are called in reloading data. Can we just use Federal Gold Medal load data?

It depends on when they were made. Older ones have a paper basewad which is very easy to see when you look down them with a flash light. You use "paper basewad" or "hunting type" hull data. If they are newer ones, they are the exact same as the top gun hulls which have a white plastic basewad. There is no specific data for them yet, but you can use Fiocchi, Cheddite, or Rio data with them if you have those primers. I can't claim it is a good idea, but I load them with Gold Medal data without any issues.

Mine are of fairly recent manufacture, they have the white plastic basewad, and a Winchester 209A primer fits them just fine.

Scotty pick a load that will yield about 1150-1200 fps and you will be fine. I prefer to reload these over the Winchester Universal Hulls. Both were sold at Walmart for the same price. They have better crimps from the factory so given a choice I always bought the Federals.. However these are still one reload and gone.

I've found the Top Guns/Field & Target hulls last way more than one shot. 7-8 shots is pretty typical before the crimp starts to fail. With more powerful loads I'm only getting 2-3 loads before the primer pocket gets loose, but those are bluedot buckshot and slug loads.

I used to reload the older Top Gun hulls for 2 hunting loads
One was a 1 1/4 lead shot load at 1330 FPS
Loaded this load in the Federal Top Gun hulls till the crimp started to fail

The other load was 1 oz of steel shot at 1550 FPS

The steel shot load , I loaded 1 time in a hull as the older Federal Top Gun hulls had a nasty habit
The plastic of the hull will pull out of the base sometimes
This didn't happen with the Federal Hi Power hulls with the high brass
But I would pick up several 5 gallon buckets of these hulls every time I shot sporting clays

As for the New Federal Top Gun hulls
They are not a Gold Medal hull IMO
Close , but different
Had to adjust the powder charge to get the load down to 1550 FPS
As the plastic base wad changes the pressures
Friend has a pressure test shotgun rig
So we check our duck loads

Are you sure you had to adjust down? I've only seen the pressure and velocity drop in the new Top Gun vs a Gold Medal, not the other way around.
