Last week SWMBO cleaned cupboards. She asked me if I wanted back a WEB pewter bud vase 1158 that I had failed to crush before she saw it. Should I accept? To my knowledge this occurrence is a first.

Possibly someone’s formula does, but it isn’t standard or even common. Tin, antimony and copper is typical. Very old items and modern non food service items can have lead.

I’ve read of some pewter like base alloys being plated with silver, but otherwise, except for the traces of silver naturally found in some lead used in old pewter ware, real silver was for those who could afford it, with pewter as the poor man’s choice.
