As a side note, I always thought the earlier 44 dudes missed out by not calling themselves the "44 Specialists."

I like the literary stretch made with the term retinue. Some idle noodling has failed to turn up any other ideas. Let's stick with it.

I'm in. Would love to see a ruger 77/327. Can't begin to imagine how fun a bolt gun that can shoot all the rimmed 32's would be.

Thank you sir. Coming from you, that means a lot. To repeat what I told our friend Dale53 though, it seems like my interests have mostly wandered off into such esoteric areas I feared no one would be interested. Now with the 32s though, perhaps I will be able to write again about something folks are interested in.

The one thing I don't understand about the .32 caliber is how do they multiply ? The only one's I've ever gotten rid of are the rifles; Marlin 1894's in .32-20 & .32H&R. Boy Howdy do I regret selling those. the handguns must give birth in the dark corners in the back of the gun safe.

I have only a couple of .32 handguns, but sure am fond of Boys' Rifles in .32 Colt.

By "long barrel" do you mean a long barreled handgun or a rifle? Idle question of course because I just love both! Right now 6" I- and K frames are the longest things I've got, but I'm really jones-ing for a 32 H&R or 327 FM carbine of some sort.

I must have missed the TFS article on your 32 build. What issue was it?

I’m with you on a 32 H&R long gun. Ruger could do it on the American bolt action or similar. And of course a Marlin 1894 in 32 H&R.

The only .32 I own that I don’t really enjoy is the Single 7.

I have a Badger project here in a box that I cannot seem to find the time. But I am always looking for a barrel +16" to also build a 32 S&W long rifle. I have thought about every reasonable action to build on a bolt gun with the rimless but nothing has worked out in head. Even a single shot in a .223 bolt gun but have not figured out how with these hot dog fingers getting round to chamber under front ring. I have a 223 NEF and that was enough to cure me of rimless in those.

I believe #262 & #263, with the first being about the Project 616 build and the second about the recreation of a Model 16-3.
Re your Single 7: The biggest complaint I’ve heard about them is difficulty loading and unloading with the small, somewhat misplaced loading gate. Is this your problem or something else?
The perfect Ruger 327 long gun? Bring back the #3 and chamber that in 327.

    Froggy,

Thanks. I will look for those issues. I had a gap in my subscription when i was overseas, so I might not have them.

The single 7 is troublesome to load and unload. I don’t care for 7 shot cylinder; its also heavier than I like for barn coat and back pocket carry. I ordered mine when they first came out. It sat for a year till I got home to pick it up. Shot it a little and put it away. It just didn’t scratch the itch like my little I frame smith or colt pocket positive.

I suspect I would have been better served with a .32 single six since i like the .32
H&R a whole lot better than the fire breathing big brother.

Confession time, practical man... you know I have the earth shaking 327s, but one of my first steps down the yellow brick road of 32s was a 1950 vintage I frame transitional snub, that's post War, but with the old style leaf mainspring. It, along with a Baby Chiefs Special still are my favored EDC pieces. A 4" underlug barrel K frame or a 5 1/2" Blackhawk just doesn't fit most of my outfits and is hard to secrete in my vehicle, so the little guns get the nod. I know I should carry something big and bad if I'm going out into a dangerous situation, but I have a better idea... I just stay home and secure! You can bet there's a 327 or two around there with the Federal High Performance stuff to feed it.

Most times though, the mere presence of a firearm, any firearm, is sufficient "backup" for any occasions that arise, and that little 32 snub rides along quite comfortably. The little gun in your pocket is better than the mega blaster in the safe at home.

Yes sir, I am interested in following anything 32 related. As someone new to 32 long with an old S&W 32 hand ejector, I need as much help as I can get.

    Froggy,

I like the little .32 revolvers a lot. My first was a 2d Model Hand Ejector with a 6” barrel. Since then I’ve collected a few, mostly after the recent great rimfire shortage. Now we have the great small pistol primer shortage. It’s always something.

The little 3” pocket positive is my trapline gun. Effortlessly rides in pants pocket or a barn coat. Kills medium size critters dead.

The Single Seven doesn’t even compare in utility to the little Colt. I’m always on the lookout for S&W J frame .32 snubs. Haven’t found one that I can afford.i Seems like folks hang onto them after discovering how useful they are.

Well, although I like my I-frames, I have to say that I am enamored of my 327's. My 4.62" Single 7 with the aluminum frame would be the cat's meow were it not for the silly sight they stuck on it. I also have a 4.2 inch 327 SP101 which is a dandy woods-walking gun. But for shooting, my 7 1/2" Single 7 is the absolute bomb. It is the only gun that I have managed to shoot an honest 1" group at 25 yards in the last five years. H-110 and a 100 grain boolit and you are shooting loud and fast.
And hitting what you're aiming at.

I still maintain that the King of the 32s is the 327FM, probably on the Blackhawk or K frame platforms, but for casual woods walking, the 4” Stainless S&W Model 631 with adjustable sights is very attractive. I guess deep down I’m just a wuss!

"The perfect Ruger 327 long gun? Bring back the #3 and chamber that in 327."...while I like the #3, I'm thinking that something lighter and handier would be a Winchester Low Wall..

Froggie...have you shot a Freedom Arms in .327 yet... I've got a 4.25" round butt with a fluted cylinder that is a joy to shoot...
