45-70 henry golden boy

I'm loading up some cast 300 grain rds for my nephews 45-70 HENRY RIFLE.
I dont have the gun, its 200 miles away. He'll bring it this March. So i'd like to have some bullets made.
Is the rifling standard cut?

My Marlin 1895 SS is Micro Groove.
Haven't tried cast with my Micro Groove gun.
Heard they didn't shoot very well.

Look down the pipe. It'll jump out at you what kind of rifling they use.

Something to remember about Henry is if you change the front sight,
it goes in & out from the left and is backwards of everybody else.

X2 thanks on the sight tip. Im about to change mine out.

Micro grooves they shoot cast fine, just keep your speeds reasonable. Powdercoating will help some too.

Henrys are not micro grooved. I think they are button rifled.

Do your own research and double check before you take out the hammer.
But that's what I found out when I changed the front sight on my Golden Boy .22.

My Henry single shot absolutely loves 12.8 grains Unique under the Lyman 292, and I bet your rifle will too.

Shortlegs, you’re probably right about this rifle not being micro grooved, but there was a time some Henry’s were. A friend at the range had one in 44 that wouldn’t shoot. A look at the muzzle told the tale. Here’s a link to another:

Whether Henry called it Micro Groove I don’t know. As a matter of trivia, some Winchesters also had Micro Grooves, but not many

On microgroove, it will shoot cast just fine, but you must go a thou or two oversize.
On the other hand, that shallow rifling will wear faster than a deeper cut style rifleing. Ie, a lot of rounds will smooth out the barrel faster.
Lead is actually a better choice for Marlins.

I'm going to try the cast in my 1895 Marlin SS.
I've just got to see how she shoots.
Of course Copper jackets are Superior in her.
