    New Mold

Just cleaned up a mold for .257 I had ordered awhile ago and received sometime ago it is a Veral Smith (LBT) mold and damn if I am impressed it drops bullets like rain from heaven, first go around left me with no keepers but just learning the mold, mold is great just need to turn pot up a tad and get things a bit hotter and I believe I have a winner, its casting within -2 grains of the 120 gr but with temp being hotter think it will be close once I am trained on it, damn shame I will never be able to get another from him.

Update seems the mold is not what I hoped, the cavity closest to handles make damn near perfect bullets after turning up the heat in the pot, the cavity farthest from handles drops nice bullet but they seem to be on the heavy side dropping and cooled weigh at 126 grain, 8 grain difference between the 2 cavities, the cavity that drops them 2 grains light I dont mind and the bullets measure 0.936, the heavies measure.960 so best I can figure the milling is deeper on the heavies, this maybe why Veral had issue with his apprentice, that parted ways with and was looking for another, dont know and never will but I need to really keep the bullets separate and deal with the hand I was dealt, or just toss in garbage and get another made to specs, like I said it tosses nice bullets but with a big difference.

I talked to Veral and his wife on the phone on Tuesday night. Their shop burned down and they don't intend to rebuild much, just the lube maker and press. Don't expect any new moulds from LBT, nor any repairs or changes.
I feel like I have lost a family member or something. I had even bugged Veral a year ago or so to buy his business, but he declined. Now there is no LBT option and the source of my favorite moulds is gone.
    Let's go Brandon!

Wow! So sad to hear about his shop, I've been ordering molds from him for over 35 years.
