    Weatherby 22

Went be a LGS today and they had just put on the shelf a Weatherby semi auto 22. Thing was gorgeous and it was NIB. 50 year old rifle and still new!!

Bought one years ago. Great rifle, really liked the single shot feature. But got stupid a traded it. Only reason I can remember is that it was too pretty for every day use. Still have the 4x Weatherby scope that came on it. GW

The Weatherby XXII was an Italian made rifle. My wife's uncle had one and it was very nice. She borrowed it to collect some gator tail to go with red beans and rice.
    Thanks for the memory!

I have one that was passed down from my dad, no scope. I sure wish it would have come with more than one magazine.

I also have his “Savage” Anschutz which is another amazing “big rifle looking” .22 (that also only came with one magazine).

The Weatherby Mark XXII was made in different countries at different times. The ones I had were made in Japan and were great rifles. I had one of my best days squirrel hunting with one. I had one with a tubular magazine and another with a box magazine.
Personally, I felt the Japanese version was prettier.
I wish I had mine back but life got in the way and they had to go to pay bills.

An engineer that worked at the same place I work said he had a couple barrels he wanted to give me.
One of them was a complete Weatherby Mark XXII barreled action, minus the stock.
I made my own stock and managed to find magazines for it.

I've dug into these before and it's worth doing some research into the different variations. Weatherby had guns made for them by multiple makers. I believe the first were in Italy and then there were three different makers in Japan. You can find a serial number table on the internet showing which makers made different guns by serial.
There were both detachable 5 shot clip fed guns and a tubular version.
Like most Weatherby's they were well finished guns.
The single shot mode is interesting and useful for teaching a new shooter.
In my experience the box mag ones can fail to stay open on an empty mag occasionally as fouling starts to gum up the followers interaction with the hold open latch.
Also, the one I've shot most doesn't feed Winchester HP ammo worth a darn, but works decently with round nose.
