Christmas Songs on the other side of the World

Greetings to our friends in the Southern Hemisphere. Up here in the frozen North, our Christmas music leans heavily toward winter, snow, and sleigh rides. I have found myself wondering what kind of music resonates with people where it is summer in December? Any replies from our Southern contingent are welcome.

its unfortunately one tune I no longer feel the love for...back when I was in rock n roll club, the annual Christmas parade would see that tune on repeat and it grew old very fast.
Grandma got run over by a reindeer
    so this is Christmas
yeah pretty much all of the old classics will be on repeat in the big shops
and we cant forget the penultimate Christmas song...when it gets played on radio..the festive season is upon us..Snoopys Christmas.

"Curous george" Googled "does it snow in Australia?" -- and it apparently does in some locales! Google came back to my inquiry with:

"Where Does It Snow in Australia?
    Tasmania

Snow falls in Tasmania during winter, but it is rare on the state's northern coast. The winter months are the coolest and wettest in Tasmania, and various high altitude regions are covered by snow. The maximum winter temperature in the central plateau is usually 3 °C, while the average temperature in the coastal region is 12 °C.
    Canberra

Light snow falls in Canberra every winter. Snowfall is rare within Canberra’s central business district (CBD), but the surrounding regions receive snow annually. Parts of the snow-capped Canberra Mountains are visible from the CBD.
    Other Regions

Numerous south Australian state capitals like Hobart (Tasmania) and Melbourne (Victoria) have received snow at least once. Other cities that receive seasonal snowfalls include Katoomba, Lithgow, Oberon, and Orange. Additionally, the Perisher Ski Resort, Mount Buller, Cabramurra, and Thredo, which have seasonal ski-tourism industries, receive snow regularly. Some isolated places in Western and South Australia, Queensland, and the Great Dividing Range also receive snow with some regularity. Snow falls regularly on the highlands, close to the eastern coast in Victoria and New South Wales (NSW).

Occasional cold snaps caused by cold air from Antarctica have produced snow in various rural areas and cities like Canberra and Hobart. These rare cold snaps occurred in 1958, 1965, 1986, 2005, and 2015. Extreme snow events have resulted in snow in Longreach, Queensland and various lowland towns like Wagga Wagga and Dubbo. However, the intensity and frequency of these snow events has decreased over the last 40 years."

"Merry Christmas from the family" by Robert Earl Keen and Blue Christmas by Elvis are traditions in this house

I was in Latin America for a couple of years in the 70's. Santa was rarely mentioned, the day of the Three Kings was huge. Christmas was a day to go to Mass and celebrate Christ's birth. Not many Christmas songs in Spanish. Families might give one gift on the 25th because of the popularity of movies and other Christmas celebrations but most gifts went out Jan 6th.

When I was in the shop, our favorite radio station switched over to Christmas music 24 hours a day at Thanksgiving.
Coming in the day after Thanksgiving, I changed it to our 2nd choice.
One of the kids asked my why, and I told him, "I'm 62 years old. I've heard pah-rumpa- pum-pum about as many times as I care to".

Something I do like is Christmas songs sung in Spanish. I only understand about 1/3 of the words, but they sure do sound pretty.

I don't know why, but for some reason my post that is quoted in post #6 is gone from this thread.

I saw nothing wrong with it. In Australia they have weather where you see them sitting on the beach and Santa is sweating his belly off. They don't get a lot of snow down that way. It's like living in Florida.

    Walking 'Round in Women's Underwear

Has always been one of my favorite Holiday songs !

My all time favorite is the New Orleans legend Benny Grunch and the Bunch rendition of
"The 12 Yat's of Christmas " ... that's the absolute best collection of Christmas songs - Benny's Christmas Albums ... Yeah Man ... Where 'Yat !
If you ain't never heard any of Benny's Christmas songs , just search Benny Grunch (thas his name) and listen to his Christmas songs ! It will make you smile if you from the South !
He used to come out with a new album every year ... but I haven't heard from him lately !

Just found out he's alive and well ... him and the bunch appeared Live in New Orleans at The French Quarter Festival in April ... Go Benny , good to hear you still making folks happy with your music !!!

Actually Australia has more snow area coverage than Switzerland.
I lived & worked in the snow resorts for nigh-on 50 years & its not warming up any with climate change....lol

My wife used to teach her elementary school kids a song for their Christmas around the world unit. She usually taught Australia, I remember a Christmas song that included " a Holden ute" and "an Eskie in the boot"... It was shared with her by an exchange student we had here for a bit, and her sister who went to school for a semester or two down under.
