    Belding & Mull powder measure

    I've been using a B&M measure with a plastic powder tube for 3 or 4 years now and really like it.

    A couple weeks ago I found the brass tube version at a local gun show. For $20 I couldn't leave it behind. It seems to be an older version. It has a unique faceted glass window. Rather than the flat glass of my other one. At first I thought it was a home made replacement. But it it is so well made that I wonder if it is the iriginal glass. What do you guys think?

    Can anyone date these?

    Both of my measures are brass, but have never seen that style glass, very nice!

    If I remember correctly, the brass is used with black powder to prevent static electricity build up.

    If that is glass, you should be able to have it puffed out. Try an eye glass store or maybe a windshield shop. You might be able to do it with super fine polishing compound and a rotary tool.
    A vote for anyone other then the conservative candidates is a vote for the liberal candidates.

    Brass is safe for black powder and smokeless. I have not taken it apart yet. But it may be the window is just dirty on the in side.

    I have owned dozens of those. Never saw a glass like that. I think most B&M units used brass until late issue which was plastic. I bought new 1980 more/less and it was plastic. There are a lot with aluminum hoppers. I have seen these sold under some other names. Not sure of early time models. Nice buy. Drop tubes can be had.

    I took the B&M apart for cleaning and inspection. Its in good shape. The lense is in fact plastic. It is very well made and clearly made for the B&M. Its not home made. I polished the lense with TR3 Resin Glaze. It cleared up very nicely. I look forward to using this along with its newer brother.

    All done. Disassembled and cleaned. Had a couple minor issues, but its all set now, works smoothly and ready to go to work. The window cleaned up very nicely.
