MP 525 WAD slug with Red Dot?

I’m not as versed in shot shell reloading as metallic.
Would the 525 (500 grain) wad slug be a swap load for load with my normal trap load and red dot powder?
It stacks up nice in the hull and the weight is basically 1 1/8 oz.

No clue if it will shoot well but I bet it will be a nice low recoil slug load.

    Thanks!

Yes, it is safe to do so. If you need spacers, add them over the slug, not under it.

525 grs. is closer to 1 1/4 oz. than 1 1/8 oz. Having said that the slug shoiuld generate less pressure due to lower bore friction so the weight difference shouln't be a big issue.

I suspect that wad blowing into an unfilled cavit may be an issue though especially with the fast powder. So... I'd suggest filling the hollow cavity.

    Good point thank you.

It does drop at 500 grains through. Being the WAD slug instead of the full bore it’s a smaller diameter.

That's normal. Lyman sabot slugs drop at 500 to 515 grains for most people, even as pure lead.

I haven't tried red dot , but my last test with a green dot book load for a similar weight load worked out pretty well .

Mine all get loaded with 18 gr of GD Fold Crimp and Slug with a glue filled base in Claybuster Blue Slug wads.. AA hulls or STS Green hulls. Both load the same.

Another thing I do is coat the wads with Mica which reduces or almost eliminates the plastic transfer to the rifling which happens pretty fast if you don't deal with it.
