What is the purpose of that stitch line on the left side?

An engraved border on the barrel and frame.

Curious. . . . a "new" cylinder - what was the issue with the original cylinder and why stitch line engraving on just one side and not on the other? Is the barrel original to the frame - or is it a "marriage" of frame, new cylinder and barrel? Does the serial # on the frame match the barrel? Date code?

    Thanks.

The original cylinder was sent to a machinist to convert it to shoot 38 spl. It was poorly done and unusable. I recently bought a new Pietta 1851 and a conversion cylinder and had a very good gunsmith line the new barrel with a .38 Spl. barrel liner so the cylinder that came with the new gun was not usable with the conversion. It fits the original Pietta that is for sale. The barrel and frame on the gun for sale is original. I used to engrave but am no longer able. Hence the completed border on one side and only a line border on the other side. As for serial numbers Pietta only places a serial number on the frame on all revolvers that I have owned. I think Uberti does put them on both barrel and frame.

The grips are original to the gun. Occasionally we get lucky and get a really nice piece of walnut. When I refinished the wood I eliminated all overhang of the wood to the grip frame so it is now a glove fit..
