    KY doe down.

Down to the wire, our rifle season closed at dark. I did not feel like hunting this evening, bronchitis, but doped up on Dayquill and a pocket full of cough drops, and went an watched a field I have permission to hunt, the borders my back field. About 10 minutes till dark 5 does came out and started picking them. I got a rest on the fence brace in front of me, about the time the wind blew my scent to them. They flagged and started walking back towards the woods, quartering away slightly left. It was 275yds, from my fencerow to the edge of the woods, and I put my crosshair a little over center high, moving with them and keeping it just in front of the shoulder. When the 6.5x284 barked, it kinda surprised me, but I heard, Bam, whop, and knew shot had hit, but all 5 flagged and ran into the woods. I went and drove across the field, and immediately found a 2 foot splash of blood, and it continued every 20 feet, for 75 yards that I found her piled. By the time I got her gutted it was dark. I called the wife and she came and helped me get it out, and get it up and skinned, letting her hang overnight. She was a big ole gal, about #120 gutted. The best part of the deal, was getting to walk around, trail my deer up, and get down and gut her myself, getting a little bit of normal back after the past 5 years. Just thought I would share.

I was using a 140 gr Sierra BTSP. I have never been disappointed in old fashioned cup an core bullets. And it is a tack driving load.

    Good shooting, Sam!
I'm glad that you're getting around so well.
I passed up a doe yesterday because of the cool wet weather( i didnt want to gut one)- we still have a month and a half of season left so I'll wait.
    That's a nice doe!

Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.

Very happy for you, Sam, on all accounts, especially the physical abilities to go afield and care for your own game again.
